Ireland - The land of water and grass

So at the end of 2003, I decided that I had had enough of Australian public servants in Canberra, and decided to head off into the great big world to seek out my fortune. As it turned out, the only two places I could get visas for were Ireland and Canada. Now don't get me wrong, I like Canada (even though I haven't been there), but I just wasn't prepared to be that close to Dubya in an election year. Who knows, he may have needed to find another country to invade to increase his election chances, and those bloody canucks from up north keep invaded the northern part of the USA and taking home the Stanly Cup every year, so why not them. That, and "Canada" kinda sounds like "Taliban" if you are an illiterate, national service dodging Texan.

Often to the Emerald Isle then. Now, I have to be honest here. I really didn't know that much about Ireland before I got here. In fact, I can make a list for you:

  1. It's where Guinness comes from
  2. They make their own type of whisky (spelt without the "e" apparently)
  3. It rains. A lot. Like all the time. Like me on the porcelin after 4 pints.
  4. The people speak with an irish accent.
  5. There are two bits - the Republic, and Northern Ireland.
  6. The northern bit has had some sort of limited civil war going on in it for a long time.
  7. U2 comes from Ireland.
  8. Dublin is the capital of the Republic, and doesn't have nearly as many cows as the rest of the country (same can't be said for Sydney).

I think that is about it. Yep, thats it. Well, Dublin it is then (mainly cause it was the only city that I knew in Ireland, and it just so happend to have an airport. That's enough for me :) So I came here armed with relative ignorance and a Lonely Planet (I love you Lonely Planet people - big kisses to all of you). And thus begun 2004.

Throughout my time hear I will be added extra bits and pieces, so check back every once in a while, I may have updated it.
