Dear Pat

Week 2 - Thursday 25th March 2004

Dear Pat,

I trust that you are well, I am in quite a decent state of health myself.

I have enjoyed this past week, for several reasons. Firstly, on Saturday past, I went to Lansdowne Road Stadium to watch Ireland play against Italy in their 6-Nations rugby match. I really enjoyed the game, the atmosphere was great, and Ireland (my adopted team) won the match 19-6. The weather was very inclement; raining, the sunshine, followed by hail and then back to sunshine. Even such weather could not detract from the fun of the occasion though. I had a really great time, and hope to be able to see another match there sometime soon. Is rugby a popular sport in Trinidad and Tobago? I know that cricket is very much the sport throughout the West Indies, but I know that in most Commonwealth countries there are small groups that play rugby.

The other interesting thing to happen in the last week was that I celebrated my 26th birthday. It was on Monday (the 22nd) and so my celebrations were very small; a couple of pints of Guinness in a local pub with some live, traditional Irish music. The band even sang ‘Happy Birthday’ for me, and most of the people in the pub joined in. It was very embarrassing, but also very nice of them to do it. I still don’t feel that I am 26; I am not exactly sure what 26 is supposed to feel like, but I don’t feel that old. Maybe 23. Even so I still don’t feel very responsible. It’s a good thing that I don’t have any responsibilities.

I won’t go on any further, you are a very busy man. I hope you have had a pleasant week and wish you the best for the forthcoming week.

Yours sincerely,
Geoffrey Campey
