Support the Australian Government. Ban Facebook!

On a day when the USA has shown it's progressive side, I feel it is time to highlight how regressive Australia has become.

Some of you may have heard about Senator Stephen Conroy's plan for mandatory Internet filtering in Australia. Some of you may understand how stupid the idea is. For those who don't, here's the short short version.

Someone, somewhere, in the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy will decide what you can and can't see on the Internet. Who this person/persons is/are, you don't get to know. What criteria they use to decide whether you can see it or not, you don't get to know. What content they have decided you can't see, you don't get to know.

The question is: do you trust your Government?

Some of you are thinking 'How can this be bad? Stopping paedophiles and child pornography? Think of the Children!'

Firstly, this will not stop paedophiles or child pornography. It won't. No matter how much they tell you it will, it won't. In the same way that invading Iraq made the world a safer place, this won't work either.

Secondly, how many of you use Facebook? Well, it should be gone under this scheme. Why? Because paedophiles use it (see here: Facebook paedophile complaints spark US legal action - ABC News ). Which means the Government should block it. And rightly so I say, it's the only way to keep the children safe!
