February 08, 2008Every once in a while......you are reminded that you are living in a particular part of the world. And when you've been living in that particular part of the world for a decent length of time, you realise that everyone from your home country just won't understand. It's not that what you are doing/see/experience is any better - just different. Take this evening for example. I came home from the pub after a couple of pints (not schooners) after work with a mate (English, not aussie), and sat down on the sofa (not couch) ready for a night in. But then I got hungry, so it was round to the chippie (not takeaway) for a fishsupper (not half a dozen fish cocktails and a portion of chips). So back home to the sofa and into the frigde for a can of Carlsberg Export (not Tooheys New) and settled onto the sofa. Switch on the TV, and the digital TV receptor (ok, so that bit is better than oz :) and flick through the 40 (free-to-air) channels trying to find something to amuse. And then you find Peter Key: Live at the Manchester Arena on. Fooking brilliant! Wait. Who? Oh yeah, that bloke from Bolton. Hang on, where? Bolton. You know, the team that Sam Allardyce took from a pile of shite to a team of thugs who were comfortably mid-table. Erm, no. Well anyway, he's just brilliant. And he reminds you that even after 200 years of distance between Oz and the UK, there is still so much in common between the two. I won't try to explain, but if you get the chance, watch it. Fooking brilliant! :) Posted by geosta at February 8, 2008 10:03 PM
