Differences in days

It's been a while since the last post, so here is something lots of people have been asking me about.

Being so far north as I currently am, the days in winter are distinctly shorter than the days in summer. For example, in summer, the sun gets up about 5am, and goes down at about 9:30pm. And outside of those hours, its like a murky twilight - it never actually gets 'dark'.

But in winter, things are different. To illustrate this point, I took this photograph this morning on my walk to work (yes, all two minutes of it):

Yes, that is pre-dawn. The sun is about 30 minutes from rising there. And no, I didn't go to work ridiculously early. This photo was taken at about 8:55am this morning.

And when I came out of court at 4:30pm this afternoon - it was night. Not getting-towards-night. It was black night.

So this is how life is in the northern latitudes. For people like me who come from lovely temperate zones, its very weird. But kinda cool :)
