April 24, 2007A rare day indeed...To be honest, I am ashamed of the Government of Australia. Their decisions on behalf of our country over the past decade has made me feel temper my pride in declaring my citizenship to others. So it is a very rare day when the Prime Minister of Australia spews forth something from his vitriolic hole that I actually agree. But today is one of those days. What was it that he said that I agree with? In response to questions about censoring the Internet (you mean their first attempt isn't working? ha! who would have thought!) in the wake of the suicide of two teenagers, John Howard said these beautiful words: "I think the greatest thing that has to be said about this is that parental responsibility in the end is the key to behaviour by children" Finally something we can agree on. It is not the place of the Government to filter what we as adults can see, hear, or discuss. It is a parents responsibility to do it. They are the ones who are best placed to determine what their kids should and shouldn't hear. And yes, that means that for children it is ultimately a lottery as to who your parents are (I won in that one :) but at least you know who to blame, not some faceless beauacracy(sp?). Its a pity then that his liberal views on the Internet do not extend to other mediums such as literature and film (hands up who has seen 'Ken Park'?). Don't you just hate it when your beautiful day is spoiled by the foul whiff of hypocracy? Posted by geosta at April 24, 2007 01:24 PM
